rml Engineering

Their business

rml Engineering, is based in Hamilton, and is a multi disciplinary engineering company specialising in automating production lines.

Their challenge

Their new CEO was acutely aware that his staff had a silo mentality, to the point where the rml business units were acting as competitors. He knew this culture, of unproductive behaviours and poor communication, was hurting the bottom line by affecting client relationships, staff retention (ability to recruit) and the quality of their service.

Their framework in action

They created their unique Success Formula to represent the genetics of their organisation and enable them to benchmark their ongoing performance.

Through measuring performance and acting on the results, rml realised a number of benefits; including greater business unit cohesiveness, strong employee branding, improved communication, staff retention and very importantly more satisfied clients.  They were able to track the improvement in project delivery and profit (hard measures) to their success formula measures (the soft stuff).  Overall the creation and scoring of their formula highly achieved the desired outcomes outlined in the initial project. Comment from rml Board Chairman

"Stephen Covey's book 'The 8th habit' became a life changing experience for me.  The overriding message was to involve everyone in the organisation to achieve not only the best for the individual, but also the best possible outcome for the organisation.

This [Success Formula] system provided a practical method to follow that strategy.  rml involved everyone in the organisation in developing and implementing our formula for success.  We are proud of the outcome from that process and we look forward to the benefits that will follow from regularly reviewing our performance against those goals."
