Healthy Heroes (Pioneers for Better Health Trust)

Their business

Healthy Heroes is a fun 9-week primary school programme where teachers, parents and kids build healthy habits to last the next 90 years!  Participants learn better ways to do the five things that make the biggest difference in life: eating, exercising, sleeping, thinking, and helping others.

This initiative, commenced in 2003 was the brain child of the Pioneers for Better Health Trust, formed by Wellington North Rotary Club.

Their challenge

The Trustees previously had only anecdotal information about the effectiveness of the Healthy Heroes programme. They needed to measure the effectiveness of each programme instance so they could look for improvement opportunities and to support the Trustees applications for further funding and sponsorship.

Their framework in action

In 2009 Success Formula was contracted to address the challenge faced by many non-profit organisations, of gathering valid and objective measurement data, and attaining/maintaining stakeholder engagement in feedback processes.

As soon as their unique formula was created the children, parents, teachers and regional Healthy Heroes facilitators were able to comment on the programme they had just completed. This collated information was reported to the Trustees to enable further continuous improvement of the programme content, and even more robust management of how and where the programme is being run (now expanded into two NZ Rotary districts and being trialled in Queensland, Australia).

Healthy Heroes Board Member

“Success Formula has made an excellent contribution to the Rotary cause.  [This evaluation] is just what we needed, particularly those areas such as rewards which clearly are not working at the moment”.  We appreciate the thoughtfulness and way the outcomes are recorded, the excellent presentation, and information to provide a sound basis for growth.”
