Building Safely in the community
Construction is a complex array of interdependent activities that some would say is at best organised chaos. The success of any project is judged by meeting the criteria of cost, time, safety, resource allocation, and quality as determined by the customer, and Phil Brosnan MD of Brosnan Construction, knows this better than most.
Phil also understands, that above all, the success of any project is dependent upon the people. Communication is fundamental if he is to proactively manage operations, avoid conflict and promote harmony amongst all the stakeholders.
Prior to the Success Formula team working with Brosnan Construction, they would conduct four hour stakeholder workshops, and run satisfaction surveys on completion of each project, completed by an independent facilitator with just one or two client representatives.
This approach was not only time consuming but provided the project team with lag metrics. What the team needed was a nimble, cost effective approach to manage stakeholder involvement and provide meaningful insights, from different perspectives, to the project.
Brosnan Construction - Stakeholders
Brosnan Construction delivers a full range of commercial and civil services.
A young dynamic company, the key members of the Brosnan team have between them well over 50 years of construction project management experience.
Success Formula’s solution
Success Formula’s unique strength is in getting diverse groups to collaborate, quickly and effectively. This is very useful time efficient way to understand and meet everyone’s expectations.
First step was to help the Brosnan team to engage their customers, subcontractors and supply chain in collaborating and agreeing the key principles, behaviours and practices in Excellence in Project Management. This was done in conjunction with the core project team of eight, over three 1hr workshops, utilising our methodology and online tools.
The next step was to craft these agreed key principles, into a set of best practice standards against which the project would be evaluated regularly. Success Formula technology made it possible for the
stakeholders to be involved remotely at a time that suited them. The focus on
agreed best practice standards and regular communication loop provided the
project team with lead metrics which were customer centric.
The business wins
The Brosnan team were in the enviable position of having the insights they needed to be proactive in managing stakeholders’ expectations, empowering them to manage the risks and deliver a successful project.
An added bonus was that they were able to leverage the positive feedback for a competitive advantage, with future community based projects.
Phil Brosnan also used the constructive stakeholder and client feedback, from the project, to assist with branding and in recruiting skilled staff.
He recently sent the Success Formula team a photo of a banner he used at a business convention with the comments….
“I thought you would be interested in seeing this banner we had made up for a careers day that we are exhibiting at today.
Note that the word cloud at the top is from all of the feedback we received from the last stakeholder engagement on our project.”
We think Phil is, without doubt, an innovative and progressive leader.
