WHO: IAG Insurance has a strong history of expertise in the transport sector. They have a specialist Fleet Risk Management team who work directly with transport and logistics operators to improve the management of their fleets.
WHY: As one of the five worst safety performing sectors in New Zealand (as outlined by ACC), Trucking and Logistics represents a large area of risk to IAG, to New Zealanders and to the sustainability of many other business operators.
WHAT: Through our collaborative partnership, we have co-developed the Traction Programme; a Formula for Excellence in Fleet Risk Management (FRM) in Trucking and Logistics, to raise the maturity and performance of transport operators and mitigate IAG’s risk exposure. This programme will;
Save operators time and stress
Improve risk awareness and decision making
Break down silo's and get teams working together
TRACTION - changing an industry
"Traction is an effective method to improve a company's health and safety culture."
Colmar Brunton in an independent validation 2013
“Success Formula takes a business on a journey, moving them from Health & Safety metrics, process and procedures to a culture of changing behaviours and actions.
This results in an internal change capability which can then be extended to a culture of business integration to drive operational and customer excellence.”
Ian Taylor, IAG Insurance, National Commercial Motor Manager
VELOCITY: We have achieved this by providing a clear road map for improved performance and assisting operators to educate, involve and motivate their teams. Regardless operator maturity, there have been significant benefits at every stage.
VISIBILITY: The mere act of undertaking the programme brings Health and Safety to front of mind for everyone. It gives everyone the opportunity to express their views, generating perceptions of value (worker participation), whilst generating the information to drive effective initiatives. Many operators now use the insights of their staff to move to a very high standard of safety, achieving higher ACC reductions.
VALUE: By implementing the Traction Programme IAG has reduced their risk exposure, improved client relationships and retention and leveraged critical insights from benchmark reports to make them leaders in their industry.
“The formula gives us [Lumley] an overarching umbrella that pulls together the components of our support offer. We get a comprehensive snapshot of what is going on and we can focus and prioritise to support change management.
Previously we could highlight the risks but had difficulty identifying if effective actions had taken place.”
Jim Wiles, IAG Insurance, National Fleet Risk Manager

Further, this programme has given my new H+E manager the info to do her job. She now has a framework and structure with which to get on with her role.”

“I recommend the Traction programme to any fleet business.”
Ultimate Transport, Grant Stembridge, Director
“With the assistance of Lumley General Insurance and the implementation of the Lumley TORQUE Fleet Risk Management program we have the tool to record, monitor and manage staff “at risk behaviours”, and to manage our fleet as effectively as possible.
The benefits we are gaining for our Health and Safety program have been incredible and the associated dollar savings due to the systems implemented and the attitude of staff to exercise desired practices and behaviours is most evident.”
McAuley Transport, Diane McAuley, Owner
“We are happy with the feedback provided and have started to implement changes as a result. This info / along with Lumley’s support – has helped to maintain tertiary ACC WMSP [highest standard of Workplace Management Safety Practices].”
